Southside Community Land Trust Rare and Unusual Plant Sale

The Southside Community Land Trust’s mission is to “provide access to land, education and other resources so people in Greater Providence can grow food in environmentally sustainable ways and create community food systems where locally-produced, affordable, and healthy food is available to all.”

SCLT fulfills this mission by managing community gardens, educating local residents about sustainable food systems, and through advocacy initiatives. One of the events they are best known for is their annual plant sale.  At this plant sale, in additional to the more prevalent plant starts you might find anywhere, you can also come home with several heirloom varieties of tomatoes, cucumbers, interesting fruit such as husk cherries or huckleberries, and all varieties of medicinal herbs.  Tucked between houses in the  Southside area of Providence, the City Farm is an urban oasis with meandering paths through beautiful perennial beds and past chicken coops and beehives.

All proceeds from the plant sale support the Southside Community Land Trusts education and community gardening programs, and all starts that are not sold are donated to local non-profit organizations.
